We know that airports can sometimes be a hassle, but a little planning and preparation ahead of time can make a big difference. Try these tips to help you breeze right on through.
Before the Trip
1. Check your itineraries for seat assignments be sure to make any Ticket
changes you need to way before schedule.
2. Handle any special needs you might have before going to the airport.
3. Make sure all contact information the airline has is correct and/or updated.
4. Take care of any passports, visas, other important papers you might need.
5. Know the check-in requirements for the airline you are traveling on and the
airport.
6. Know the requirements for the security checkpoints where you'll be
traveling from and to. This information can be obtained from an agent at the
ticket counter or a security officer.
7. Check security checkpoint wait-times and allow plenty of extra time for
busy holiday periods.
During your Travel
1. Check the display screens and monitors in the airport you're in to find your
gate.
2. Arrive at the gate early with your boarding pass and e-ticket receipt.
3. Keep an eye on the gate display screens that are posted in most airports.
4. Listen for announcements at the gate. It might be important and related to
your flight.
US Airways cuts jobs, fleets; now charges for 1st Bag
Tempe, Ariz.-based US Airways said it would cut domestic flights, shrink the size of its fleet and slash 1,700 jobs, charge passengers
to check their first bag and add a fee for nonalcoholic drinks during flights.
Fliers will pay $15 to stow one bag in the cargo hold for tickets booked on or after July 9, 2008. US Airways will be the third major carrier to add such a charge. Free drinks in coach may be out the door as well. Passengers in the back will soon be charged $2 per nonalcoholic drink starting Aug. 1.
Passports are now required for travel between the U.S. and Canada, Bermuda, and Mexico. Exceptions are
being made for those who applied but have not yet received theirs. This only affects U.S. rules, for
